Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to see whales?
August, September, October, January and February are the best months for whale watching here. Humpbacks are wild animals in open water, so no trip can promise a sighting — but those are the months we go out expecting them.
How long is the whale-watching trip, and what does it cost?
Three hours, from $96 per person. That includes the entrance ticket to Marino Ballena National Park, water, fruit and a bilingual guide.
Where do we meet?
Go to the entrance to Marino Ballena National Park, at Playa Uvita. Each guide wears a T-shirt with the OsaMar Adventures logo on it. If you have any trouble with the address, call or send a message to +506 8552 9607.
Is the national park ticket included?
Yes, on both the whale-watching trip and the sport-fishing trip. Parking for vehicles is not included.
Do you speak English?
Yes. The whale-watching trip goes out with a bilingual guide, and the sport-fishing trip is run in English or Spanish.
What should I bring?
For whale watching: sunglasses, sunscreen, flip-flops and beachwear. For sport fishing: a towel, sunscreen and comfortable clothes. No alcohol or drugs on board, on either trip.
Can I bring a baby?
The whale-watching trip is not suitable for babies under one year old.
How does the sport-fishing trip work?
Five hours, private — just your group, up to five people — from $900 for the boat. It starts with entry to the marine park and a briefing, then the captain and guides set up the gear and stay with you. Tuna, mahi-mahi, snapper, mackerel and horse mackerel are what we go for. It is not suitable for anyone prone to seasickness.
What else do you run?
Snorkelling and diving at Isla del Caño, Corcovado National Park, the mangrove channels of the Río Térraba, and dolphin watching. We only work on the water. Those four have no published rate, so write to us and we will quote your group.
How do I book?
Send a WhatsApp message to +506 8552 9607 or write to osamartours@gmail.com. We answer every day between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
